In 1999, only 10 months into his service, he was on a recon mission inside Lebanon when his team was ambushed and he was shot in the foot. He could not walk for a year and a half. He recovered, he thought, and when a year later his sister was injured in a terrible terror attack, all the pain came flooding back. Gili escaped to Thailand to avoid Israel and the memories of war and terror. He lived there for 10 years, married a woman and had 4 children together, trying to ignore the reality of his past. Recently, he realized that there is no escape and he must return home and live fully.
Gili was tattooed on October 11th, 2017 by artist Megan Jean Morris at Mike's Place in Tel-Aviv.
