On the morning of 9/11 I was home with 2 out of my 3 daughters my oldest one I just started kindergarten two days prior will watching the children's show on television when it was interrupted by the news they showed a picture of a plane hitting one of the towers. My phone right shortly after that me calling me to work I dropped my two kids at my mother's house and drove it into my assigned Precinct at the Queens Nassau border the state troopers had everything shut down and I store state trooper level of shotgun at a car that wanted to go past the Queens Nassau border he let us go as we show DiMaggio's and proceeded to to the precinct I got some I command ran to my locker grab my uniform and gear and one of getting dressed in a van that was going down to lower Manhattan we arrived home and had and just as a second tower was coming down. Afterwards it was like being in a surreal science fiction movie piece of debris paper Ash's smashed Vehicles things on fire there was dust hanging vertically off the side of buildings. It was hard to breathe with everything floating around in the air. We were assigned to security posts on a perimeter of the World Trade Center a block away on North End Avenue at the scene or you could see where the skeletal remains of The Two Towers and be heaps of what used to be the Trade Center buildings I remember seeing a big steel beam that look like it was thrown into the side of the world financial building. We eventually formed up to do a grid search to look for any survivors we didn't find any I spent the next three months down there and looking into the pit it was like looking into the gates of hell without actually having witnessed it it's almost impossible to describe eventually was sent home from the site after I developed a severe nosebleed which stem from a sinus infection phone breathing in all the dust and debris and the toxins at the site I later found out that the medications that I was given also cause me to lose a good part of my hearing in addition to that I also developed a mild case of psoriasis on my skin but all things considered I guess I should consider myself lucky I'm still here today and able to record this message. I remember walking along the river past Merchantile Tile Exchange and along a fence or hundreds of notes and pictures of people who are missing in the Trade Center written by children parents I stopped to read them and it was really heartbreaking reading these please to find their parents their fathers their children and knowing that in all probability they probably weren't going to last August I returned to the World Trade Center site for the first time with two of my daughters to the reflecting pools I'm still not able to go into the museum itself there's a crushed fire truck in the museum and I remember the second night we were on site walking by it and just imagining what had happen to have that truck look like that and what happened to the fireman that were assigned to it. I retired from the NYPD on April 27th 2017 after 27 years of service.
