Amit Shmuel, I served in the Giv'ati Brigade. During the course of the route, we were called on to reinforce another unit that was under heavy attack. We were sent to a house in the village of al-Dik following a report of molotov cocktails and throwing stones at Highway 6. As we were walking through the forest near the village I fell off a cliff and smashed my leg. Because of where we were and the danger of the situation, the Commander could not evacuate me and my friends carried me on their backs the whole way. Our next mission was to capture and arrest a terrorist. With me on their backs, we reached his house, arrested him and took control of the area while waiting 13 hours for evacuation. On returning to base, I was sent to the hospital and found severe nerve damage. I could not walk for 8 months and needed daily therapy. I am proud to say I am now able to walk and, even, run.
